Matthew 11:11 – Least in the Kingdom

Matthew 11:11 – Truly I say to you, There has not arisen among those born of a woman any greater than John the Baptist. But the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he is.

There are several claims being made relative to Jesus’ statement in John 14:28, that Matthew 11:11 says there has never been a man “greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”

The trinitarian by use of the word “nature” usually means life substance, life form, which is more scripturally referred to as “body”. In 1 Corinthians 15:35-49, Paul speaks of the two different general kinds of bodies, one celestial, heavenly, spiritual, and the other terrestrial, earthly, physical, fleshly. Thus, we apply to the scriptural terms to the trinitarian usage of the word “nature.”

We are asked if this mean that John does not have a human nature? We would answer no; why should we think such?

We are asked the question: Does this mean those in heaven, who are greater than John, have a different nature? Yes, aboslutely! It would mean that John does not receive the highest reward in the kingdom, but that he would be here on the earth. This because the time period of the Law and the Prophets were until John. John is before the call that would allow humans to press into the kingdom as to obtain the prize of joint-heirship with Jesus.  (Matthew 11:12; Luke 16:16) Being before that call, the least one who obtains that prize will be greater than John the Baptist in the kingdom. Jesus is evidently using “kingdom” here to represent those who overcome and sit on the throne with him. John the Baptist was never offered that kingdom.

We are asked the question: If John the Baptist is the greatest man to ever live, and if Jesus was just a man, does that mean John the Baptist was greater than Jesus, superior to Him by nature?

First of all, Jesus did not say that John the Baptist was the greatest man who ever lived. He said that no greater many

Does that mean Jesus and John could not have both had a human nature?
